How we can help
Some adults are new to mental health treatment, while others have had years of experience. No matter your background, we take an individualized approach, which starts with an expert assessment and will always respect your unique history, preferences, and goals. Then, we review a range of suitable treatment options based on steadily advancing knowledge in our field and work with you to develop a comprehensive treatment plan best suited to help you achieve positive outcomes.
Coping during the COVID-19 era
The COVID-19 pandemic has touched every family. We all have faced the challenge of adapting to new ways of learning, working, and socializing. Each of us has grieved losses, whether of people or cherished group celebrations like graduations. Many of us have tested positive and are experiencing longer-lasting effects such as depression, fatigue, or cognitive problems. Everyone faces a future in which uncertainty is a defining theme.
We at Montefiore Einstein Psychiatry Associates have developed state-of-the-art approaches to support you and your family through this uniquely challenging time. And just as important, we are here to help guide you through the transition back to your pre-pandemic routines.

Our treatment planning begins with an expert assessment that includes an interview with a mental health professional, supplemented as needed by selected questionnaires and, in some cases, additional testing. We want to achieve a clear understanding of your initial problems, overall preferences, and ultimate goals so that we may develop the most patient-centered and effective plan possible.
Also called talk therapy, individual psychotherapy involves meeting with a psychologist, social worker, or psychiatrist. These sessions can use one or more of a range of evidence-based treatment approaches such as cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, interpersonal therapy, or acceptance and commitment therapy. The choice of therapeutic approach is often based on what is known about the success of different methods for treating each condition and upon your preferences.
Some forms of talk therapy are delivered particularly effectively in a group setting led by an experienced psychologist, social worker, or psychiatrist. Participants in the group can benefit from the skills and insights of the therapist leading the group as well as stand to gain from the opportunity to support and learn from each other.
Our psychologists, social workers, and psychiatrists are available to meet with families or couples during challenging times. Family and couples therapy can be an effective way of addressing relationship problems from multiple perspectives. In some cases, only a few sessions are needed to help evaluate and strategize around an impasse in a relationship or a complex family dynamic. Others can benefit from ongoing treatment for weeks or months to successfully develop the tools needed to tackle persistent challenges.
We offer an evidence-based, family-centered approach that helps parents or guardians of young children with behavioral problems. This form of therapy was developed with particular attention to young children and their families’ unique developmental skills and needs.
Our psychiatrists have substantial expertise with medications developed to safely treat a wide range of conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Some individuals can be treated with medications alone. Others benefit from a combination of medications and psychotherapy, while others may only require psychotherapy. Special consultation is also available for those interested in the risks and benefits of medications during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Our faculty practitioners continuously integrate current best treatment practices for different conditions with a patient’s preferences and health goals.
We offer detailed testing for children, adolescents, and adults that exhibit learning, attentional or cognitive problems, including suspected learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder, mild cognitive impairment, and dementia. Our comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations usually include a 4-6 hour session or several shorter sessions. We will then review the assessment report with you and discuss our recommendations.
